My Classics: Leather Jacket

A high quality leather (or faux leather if you prefer not to wear leather) jacket is a really good investment that can last for decades if you choose a classic style. They are waterproof and can take a battering and look even better afterwards. This is where it pays to buy good quality. Lower quality jackets scuff and tear easily, and the dye wears off. You can find amazing jackets second hand and have them professionally cleaned while still saving a huge amount of money.

I always buy mine slightly larger than necessary so that I can layer clothing underneath. This allows me to wear my jacket for most of the year, even in Sweden.

I bought my first leather jacket second-hand when I was still a teenager. It was a classic bomber jacket (also known as a pilot or aviator jacket).

Since then I have owned a fitted leather blazer bought at Leather Rat in South Molton Street London,

…a café racer jacket in black suede, which I did not like because I am not a fan of suede and the boxy style did not suit me. You can find more fitted styles in this model.

I have also owned three or four quality motorcycle or biker jackets. Some I have used only for being on the bike, others I wear casually. I like that the leather is thicker and more durable, and the style suits me better than any of the others.
