My Classics: Shoes

My new shoes for the next two or so seasons – until they start to look shabby. Pink Kate Spade Keds and two pairs of pumps.

I have never really been a shoe person. Between the ages of 15 and 18 I liked to wear very high heels, and massive platform shoes, because everyone else did. But after that it has been flat footwear all the way apart from some mid-heel boots. I don’t have a large shoedrobe and I hate buying footwear because I usually battle to find what I like and then I have a few uncomfortable days wearing the new shoes in. My basic shoedrobe is:

  • flat beige pumps
  • flat black pumps
  • white sneakers (I buy cheap so I can replace them every few seasons)
  • Low boots (below)
  • knee high flat boots (see below)
  • hiking boots
  • flip flops
  • heavier winter boots
  • Frye Grinder boots for the motorbike

If you have skinny or wide calves, boots with laces at the back like the ones below are amazing, because you can adjust them. Most boots that go up over the calves look like Wellington boots on me and flap around annoyingly as I walk. Another good option if you have unusually shaped or sized calves is something like Duoboots
