I don’t have a problem finding ankle boots, but I can very seldom find taller boots that fit my skinny calves. I find more and more stores are catering for wider calves these days, which is a good thing. But if you have skinny legs, regular boot-widths make you look like you are wearing wellies.
The only boots I have ever found that properly fit my calves were my ancient ones from the Mango sale, which I resoled and resoled until they finally had to be thrown away. They had top buckles you could tighten nicely and I loved those boots.
For the past two years I have been hunting for smarter work boots that don’t gape around the top of my calves and I think I have finally found the right thing. I got them at Deichmann and they have laces all the way up the back. The leather is soft so you can actually tighten the laces until they are snug around the top and they are very comfortable. They are by 5th Avenue and are leather and suede. If you, like me, have thin legs, this may be a model that you could look out for.
